Universiti Utara Malaysia (Northern University of Malaysia), is a public university located in the town of Sintok, Kedah. Utara means 'northern' in the Malay language. It was formally incorporated on 16 February 1984. The University was established with the specific mission of providing a leadership role for management education in the country. Thus, the university is also known as a management university. The academic establishments in UUM include College of Business (UUM COB), College of Law, Government and International Studies (UUM COLGIS) and College of Arts and Sciences (UUM CAS). UUM is the first university in the country to be a fully wired using fiber-optic cables. The University has 29 computer laboratories located at various academic and administrative buildings within the campus, providing the students with access points for e-services.

In support of this purpose UUM also providesaccomadation on campus as the University Inn next to the hall can be rented student accomadation during the semester break.
It also UUM offered new accomodation of EDC-UUM is located near the main entrance. UUM has developed a forest area of 107 hectars, save it as a tourist attraction in the norher n region by providing facilities such as 9-hole of golf courses, the camp, go-kart circuit, target shooting and archery field, a deer park, equestrian sires and so forth.
